"Robin Bark has created an object of art that appears to be fluid
motion" -
MORAY CALLUM (Designer of the
current generation Ford Mustang)
Welcome to Robin Bark's automotive
art website.
INSPIRED BY THE SPIRIT OF MOTORING
"My aim is not to create a static model. My
pieces must 'move'."
"When a speeding car sweeps
past us, we rapidly morph together fleeting glimpses with emotion,
noise and power. I
endeavour to express something of this in my work." ___
Robin's career as an artist was interrupted by a
20 year period teaching Design in colleges and at university. Consequently,
his work falls into two destinct styles.
His earlier work tends
towards a heroic, illustrative style. In more recent years, his minimalist
approach seeks to cut through extraneous detail and capture the
essence of the car in it's purest form. There are no lines depicting windows, or door-shuts. "Every extra rivet slows it down".
The following quote has been
a guiding light.
"In
anything at all Perfection is finally achieved Not when there is
nothing left to add But when there is nothing more to take away." -Antoine de St Exupery
Robin's
SCULPTURE is cast in solid metal, usually in
aluminium, but also in solid bronze. The pieces are
highly polished or finished in a semi-precious, or precious material. The subtle detail
is revealed as light plays on the reflective surface planes, envoking
a sense of speed and dynamism.
His current, minimalist PAINTING
style
focuses on simplifying the essential elements of the subject into areas of
flat colour to create a powerful image using as few colours as possible.
"I leave out as much as I can to enable the viewer
to interact with the work and fill in the gaps"
